Peace Pole raised

Peace Pole

About 35 to 40 people came to witness the dedication of the Peace Pole at White Pine Lake on July 17, 2004. Five young ladies raised the pole while Master Craftsman and Rotarian Ron Glass secured it in place, Rotarian Al Vick gave an invocation, and president Emmanuel Serriere told about the profusion of peace poles throughout the world. Originally raised in September 2001, and destroyed by vandals in July 2003, this 17-foot Peace Pole is a hand-crafted monument that displays the message and prayer "May Peace Prevail on Earth" on each of its four sides in Mi-Wok, Spanish, Japanese and English. We are now linked with people all over the world who have planted their Poles in the same spirit of peace. There are more than 200,000 Peace Poles around the world on all continents, in virtually every country you can think of. Below, Mi-Wok tribal member Rabbit blessed the pole with the smoke of the sage plant, and the pole is secured by Ron Glass and his young assistants.
