International Service
International Service takes on a number of different forms, but at the heart is
the awareness that Rotary is truly an international organization, and that the
community of Rotarians is worldwide in scope.
Over the years, the Arnold Rotary Club has sponsored Ambassadorial Scholars,
sent its members to foreign countries and hosted visiting Rotary groups, rebuilt
a hospital and park in Ensenada, Mexico, and held its annual Valentine's Day
International Dinner.
Rotarian Hank Tussy of the Rio Vista Rotary
Club, and father of Bob Tussy of the
Arnold Rotary club, recently spoke about a project the Rio Vista club has going
in Mulege, Baja California, to help send local Mulege students to high school and
college. With Hank is Arnold Past President Dave Arnold.
Rosarita Beach playground equipment
For one of its recent international projects, the Arnold Rotary Club volunteered to
remove the old playground equipment from Hazel Fischer School. Rotarian Ron Glass
(with help from his son Shawn), along with Barry Shires, provided the volunteer labor
and equipment to remove the equipment from the elementary school in Arnold to make
room for new playground items. In a joint international project with the Rotary Club
of Desert Hot Springs, the playground fixtures were donated to a school in Rosarito
Beach, Mexico, with the assistance of the Rotary Club of Rosarito Beach.
Valentine's Day Dinner
Valentine's Day doesn't seem like it has anything to do with International
Service, but at the Arnold Rotary Club, February 14 is traditionally the day of
our international dinner. Originated many years ago by the late Bob Wehe (shown
with his wife, Alice, at right), the dinner features a special menu, and includes
gifts sent to the Club by other Rotary Clubs around the world. It also offers
members an opportunity to bring their spouses and families to a meeting for an
added measure of fellowship. More photos...
