Paul Harris, founder of Rotary International
The Rotary Foundation
The Rotary
Foundation is at the center of Rotary's international programs. Established in 1917,
it provides an avenue for funding the various works of Rotary, and for receiving
the contributions of Rotarians worldwide.
The Rotary Foundation has several major programs which it supports. They include:
Ambassadorial Scholarships:
Provided to students to pursue academic studies and research in other nations.
Group Study Exchange:
Rotary districts select young business and professional people to spend about six weeks
in another country.
Matching Grants: The
Rotary Foundation matches funds provided by clubs to assist with international projects.
Health, Hunger and Humanity
(3H) Program: Provides for programs too large for clubs or districts to support on
their own.
The Rotary Foundation also provides expense money for Rotary volunteers who spend
significant time involved in Rotary projects internationally, and provides teaching
grants for volunteers in underdeveloped areas.
The Rotary Foundation is supported by contributions from clubs and districts, but a
huge portion of its funds come from the donations by individual club members. Virtually
all of the members of the Arnold Rotary Club have been recognized with Paul
Harris Fellowships, an honor given to those members who contribute $1,000 to the
Foundation.
